Can holistic therapy help regulate your nervous system?

The relationship between holistic therapy and the nervous system

Holistic therapy works with the whole person - body, mind and nervous system - rather than simply focusing on symptoms. Through therapeutic touch, clinical aromatherapy, breathwork, relaxation and mindful attention, it can create the conditions for the nervous system to move out of a state of constant alert and towards greater regulation.

This isn’t about ‘switching off’ or eliminating stress. A well-regulated nervous system gives us greater capacity to meet everyday demands, adapt to challenges and recover after the pressures of work, relationships and daily life.

Holistic therapy supports this process by giving the body repeated experiences of safety, rest and connection. Over time, these experiences can help build our capacity to respond to stress without becoming stuck in it - so we’re not simply coping with life, but have more space to actually live it.
